This, on top of everything else going on during separation time, was by far the most stressful process, even before moving. Finding a temporary apartment was crazy!
First off slim pickings in the state where my partner was working, everything that was available was too small or too expensive. We needed at least a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. We were willing to downsize for a short period of time while we found our house. Having a bonus space was a big plus, because that meant possible 3rd bedroom for our son, who could really sleep anywhere. We were even thinking about putting him in a living room space in these 2 bedroom apartments.
Anyways, we looked for weeks, my partner had to find time after work or on his days off to find an apartment for us to live in. The weeks were just going by and by and I was wondering if we were ever going to get in somewhere. He saw one apartment in what looked like a not great neighborhood to be in, from the pictures I saw anyways. I didn't want to say yes because it looked too small, the landlord seemed to be bothered by the fact that my partner had questions and that he had to see the apartment before deciding (he took a video of the apartment visit) and I wasn't familiar with the area and had to see it for myself.
He set up an appointment to see another apartment 30 minutes south from his work and closer to the state we were leaving. He had set up an appointment to see it but the landlord didn't bother to show.
In addition to frustrating landlords, the apartment agencies who were listing these apartments never got back to him when he called to see apartments. A lot of these apartments were just sitting on Craigslist or rentals.com for weeks all because these agencies were just hard to get a hold of. My partner was sick of trying to hunt these people down. We decided that I would have to come to the area and take a look around to see what I liked.
